about
Andreas says:
“The song is about being in a relationship and then suddenly and unexpectedly getting very close to another person. An outsider. There’s an element of temptation and indecisiveness, the feeling that “the grass is always greener” but also regret and feelings of guilt, even though nothing has actually happened. You begin to ask yourself questions like: what is infidelity anyway? Is it just having the thoughts? Is flirting ok? Isn’t it just very human to be interested in other people? And does that, or does it not include people you may have known in the past, who you still and always will love? Are we really supposed to stop loving someone just because we aren’t in a relationship with them anymore? These are complicated questions with no right or wrong answers, just reactions and decisions based on them. Life is complicated. Emotions are complicated. For some people morality or religion can be a way of managing such a situation, others depend on intellectually dissecting the questions, and some choose to ignore the possible consequences and go with the flow.”
Song description:
With ‘Ordinary People’ Andreas shares vocal duties with Danish banjo queen Sine Bach Rüttel, an artist in her own right with a long list of works as the go-to session player for stars of the Danish folk rock scene. In line with last summer's release ‘Love & War’, ‘Ordinary People’ features train-beat drums, banjo, double bass, acoustic guitar, organ and vocals. It is best described as being reminiscent of Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, The Byrds, and early Eagles, but with a fresh, new melodic approach. The lyrics describe a retrospective contemplation of a love-affair - the feelings of temptation, resistance, guilt, lust, self-loathing, and empathy for the scorned partner back home.
lyrics
Ordinary people
Broken dreams in a picture frame
forgotten faces and forgotten names
Deep regrets about a one time friend
Oh-oh Got too close
True confessions in a late night bar
carried away by the open fire
taking friendship just a bit too far
Oh-oh Gotta go
But we're only people ordinary people
living life with people every day
Yeah, we're people, disappointed people
making up with people on the way
Waking up with a guilty vibe
feeling ashamed of what you said last night
though you men't it doesn't make it right
Oh-oh should have known
Going backwards in a one way street
meeting up when we shouldn't meet
playing games for the fun of it
Oh-oh getting close
But we're only people ordinary people
living life with people every day
Yeah, we're people, disappointed people
making up with people on the way
Bad mistakes that I might have made
running off when I should have stayed
feeling sorry for the things I said
Oh-oh- Well, you know
Here I am in an open shell
Trynna explain everything I felt
Feeling sorry yeah, do you as well ?
Oh-oh Let it go because you know
That we're only people, ordinary people
living life with people every day
Yeah, we're people, disappointed people
making up with people anyway
